Haunga Tabbed Mountain West Offensive Player Of The Week

Redshirt junior Hevani Haunga earns first conference honor after Sunday's hat trick

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Redshirt junior Hevani Haunga has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. This is the first weekly league honor for the forward from Laupahoehoe, Hawaii.

Haunga recorded the seventh hat trick in program history Sunday, scoring all three Rebel goals - including the game-winning golden goal - in the 3-2 overtime victory over UCSD. Both her goals in regulation came when UNLV was trailing. The first came at the 34 minute mark to tie the score up at one, while the second evened the score at two with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game, helping the Rebels force overtime. Five minutes into the first overtime period, Haunga scored on a give-and-go in the box with teammate Lourdes Bosch, netting the goal for the win in the 95th minute. It was the second career golden goal for Haunga, who also scored the game winner last spring against San Diego State.

This marks the second time in as many seasons a Rebel player has recorded a hat trick en route to earning the award as current sophomore Nailah Hapring picked up the honor in the spring after a three-score day at San Jose State in March.

UNLV remains at home this week to host California Baptist Thursday at noon at Peter Johann Field, then heads out on the road for a Sunday 1 p.m. match at Grand Canyon.
