LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- The UNLV men's tennis team will open its fall season by hosting the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Â
Players from five other western programs are competing in the individual event. Opponents scheduled to send competitors are Arizona State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Cal Poly and Grand Canyon.
Â
The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. PT Friday and will be made up of two flights of singles and one flight of doubles. Admission is free of charge.
Â
In the most recent Easley, staged in 2019, UNLV's
Alex Kobelt downed Cal Poly's Antoine Noel in the Flight One final while Kobelt teamed with
Jordan Sauer to win the doubles crown over top-seeded Connor Rapp and Max Wild of UCLA.
Â
The event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
