LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete in the New Mexico Team Open. The one-day meet will take place Saturday at the Great Friends of UNM Track Stadium and features a handful of Mountain West rivals including host University of New Mexico, as well as the PAC-12's UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State.
Action gets underway at 7:45 a.m. (PT) with the men's pole vault, the first of 12 field events. There will be 21 track events beginning with the men's 3000m run after the completion of the women's shot put event.
MOUNTAIN WEST RANKINGS: UNLV has a total of six student-athletes ranked in the top-20 for six events in the Mountain West standings.
Cassidy Osborne-Butler sits second in the weight throw (19.14m), while
Madelyn Wattles ranks 17th (14.16m).
Natalia Ruiz sits ninth in the mile (4:57.84) and 17th in the 3000m (10:14.89),
AnnaKay Maitland ranks seventh in 60m (7.69),
Erin Thompson holds 14th in high jump (1.57m) and
Alia Scott sits 18th for the 60m hurdles (9.23).
LAST TIME OUT: The Rebels sent a small squad to the NAU Friday Night Axe 'Em Open in Flagstaff, Arizona on January 14, where the Scarlet & Gray collected five victories and a total of 15 top-eight finishes. Ruiz took first in both the mile (5:09.06) and the 3000m (10:41.56), Osborne-Butler won the weight throw with 62-07.95 (19.14m), Amari Prude came out on top in the 500m (1:21.80) and Maitland earned first in the 150m (18.29).
