ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team secured six top-10 victories and a total of seven personal bests in their respective events amongst 21 other teams at the New Mexico Team Open hosted by University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Cassidy Osborne-Butler won the weight throw event with a personal best of 64-01.00 (19.14m), her second consecutive win for this event. UNLV had six top-10 finishes in their respective events, Erin Thompson tied for ninth in high jump with 5-01.75 (1.57m), Julia Nixon took ninth in the 600m run with a personal best of 1:45.70, Emma Wahlenmaier secured fifth in the 800m with a 2:10.96, while Elisa Rovere followed closely behind in sixth with a 2:11.27 and Jaylen Walker took eighth in the triple jump with 37-10.50 (11.54m).
The Scarlet & Gray had three other athletes earn personal bests, Madelyn Wattles earned a personal best in the weight throw with 47-10.00 (14.58m), Natalia Ruiz ran a 4:56.82 in the mile and a 2:16.86 in the 800m and AnnaKay Maitland ran a 25.09 in the 200m.

We're going back here for conference so I'm really pleased with how these ladies progressed so far, for some of them it was their first time competing indoor this season, and I'm excited to see what they do when we come back at the end of the season. Always happy to see these athletes hit personal and season bests, especially this early in the season. Natalia hit personal and season bests in the mile and 800m today, Julia Nixon also had a personal best in the 600m, AnnaKay in the 200m, Maddie had a personal best in the weight throw, Cassidy had two personal bests and won her second consecutive weight throw event.
