FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's golf freshman
Thienna Huynh swung her way to a top-20 finish with a final-round 4-over 76 Wednesday at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational hosted by Arkansas at Blessings Golf Club (Par 72, 6,452 yards).
The Rebels new addition tied for 18th with an 11-over 227 for the three-day tournament, notching her second straight top-20 finish of the fall in the process. Beside her in the Scarlet & Gray's final score tally, senior
Nicole Lorup (+14) and sophomore
McKenzi Hall (+14) tied for 31st with a 230, senior
Veronica Joels (+15) tied for 35th and senior
Morgan Goldstein (+30) finished 55th.
Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez took the individual crown at 8-under 208 after a 54-hole event that only had two competitors finish at par or better. The runner-up from Ole Miss Andrea Lignell scored a 2-under 214, to finish ahead of her teammate Chiara Tamburlni (+2) and Louisville's Carmen Griffiths in a tie for third and UCLA's Zoe Campos (+4) in fifth.
As a team, UNLV remained in its previous round spot for an eighth-place finish at 54-over 918 over, ahead of Louisville, UCF and Kansas. Behind its individual winner, Mississippi State also came away with the team championship at 15-over 879, finishing six shots ahead of second-place finisher Ole Miss (+21). The host Razorbacks (+25), UCLA (+29) and Texas A&M (+31) wound up in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
UP NEXT: The Rebels jump back into action in just over two weeks when it heads to San Marcos, Texas, for the Jim West Invitational being hosted by Texas State from Sunday-Monday, Oct. 23-24.
