LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- The UNLV men's tennis team will close its fall season by hosting the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Â
Players from four other western programs are competing in the individual event. Opponents scheduled to send competitors are Utah, Grand Canyon, NAU and Idaho State.
Â
The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. PT Friday and will be made up of two flights of singles and one flight of doubles. Admission is free of charge.
Â
In last year's Easley, UNLV's top-seeded Christopher Bulus downed Gonzaga's second-seeded Sasha Trkulja in the Flight One singles final while Matthew Hollingworth and Trkulja teamed up to defeat San Diego State's Alexander Mandma and Victor Castro in the doubles final.
Â
The event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
