Desi-Rae Young was selected the Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Young scored a career-high 30 points to lead UNLV over Northern Arizona, 93-73, on Dec. 21. The junior center also totaled 14 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists.
It was UNLV"s first win against NAU in three tries under head coach
Lindy La Rocque.
Young scored the first six points for the Lady Rebels with her third field goal igniting a 19-point scoring run the team would not relinquish.
During the game, Young became the 26th Lady Rebel to reach 1,000 career points. She did so in the fifth-fewest games in program history.
It was the fifth time in Young's career to earn Mountain West Player of the Week. Young ranks second in scoring and first in rebounding among the league's players.Â
UNLV (10-2) begins conference play Thursday, Dec. 29, hosting Wyoming. Tip-off is 6:30 p.m. at the Cox Pavilion.Â
