Rebels In Seventh After Day Two of MW Indoors

Cassidy Osborne-Butler won the weight throw title with a 19.96m mark.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team finished day two of the 2022 MW Indoor Championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Friday's events consisted of the women's weight throw, high jump, 60m hurdles, 400m dash, 60m dash, 800m run, 200m dash and 5000m run.

Cassidy Osborne-Butler claimed the women's weight throw title with a mark of 65-6.00 (19.96m), the first Rebel to win this event since Chelsea Cassulo in 2011 (19.87m). Osborne-Butler added on 10 points for the Rebels, pulling them at seventh overall with 14 points.

Emma Wahlenmaier and Elisa Rovere will compete in the finals of the 800m after both qualifying Friday. Wahlenmaier ran the second fastest time of the event, clocking in at 2:10.78, followed by Rovere in eighth (2:14.17).

Also advancing to Saturday's finals are Taylor Shorter in the 60m hurdles (third/8.54(PB)) and Natalia Ruiz Lara in the mile (10th/5:03.35).
The Rebels take on the final day of the competition starting Saturday at 10 a.m. (PT) beginning with the women's mile final and the women's triple jump trials and finals. UNLV will also have participants in the 3000m run and 1600m relay.

QUOTABLE: "I'm really happy with the athletes' effort today, it was a really good day of track for UNLV. We've got some work to do with sprints before outdoor season, but I'm really happy with getting Emma and Elisa qualified in the 800m. It's going to be exciting getting them out there to really compete tomorrow. Taylor Shorter was really looking strong with her PR today in the hurdles, she came off the last three blazing today so I'm looking forward to seeing her carry that over into finals tomorrow. I'm really happy with Natalia, we haven't had a distance runner make it to finals in the mile in a while and the conference is so distance heavy this season. Really proud of Cassidy today, she had a great series from start to finish and plenty of strong throws that probably would have won the whole thing. Really pleased with the effort today and looking forward to carrying it over in finals tomorrow."- Dorian Scott, Head Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country
