Rebels Finish Ninth At MW Indoors

NLV Track & Field's Natalia Ruiz Lara recorded the second fastest mile time in the program's all-time indoor performance list.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team finished ninth overall at the 2022 MW Indoor Championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The Rebels accumulated 29 points and were only seven points behind eighth place.

The Scarlet & Gray was led by Taylor Shorter's third-place showing in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.56.

Ruiz Lara tacked on points for the Rebels in the mile, finishing fifth with a 4:53.85, the second fastest time in program history. Emma Wahlenmaier and Elisa Rovere brought in a total of five points in the 800m run. Wahlenmaier took sixth with a 2:10.85 and Rovere followed close behind in seventh with a 2:14.68.

QUOTABLE: "There were some real bright spots on this final day of competition. Our two seniors, Elisa and Emma, had a real hard fight in that 800m. They really took it out in the 400 and really fought all the way through. I'm really proud of their efforts, they ended up doing a DMR four by four in the rounds of the 800. I'm happy with their leadership, the way they lead by example and showing exactly what it is to put it all out there. Really proud of Natalia and how amazing of a freshman season she's having, going from indoors to now outdoors. Making the mile final in the MW is no easy task, let alone doing it as a freshman, so this is a really important building block for me to work off of in the future. She wanted to show the conference that she can mix it up with the big girls, so I'm just really proud of her efforts today. Taylor did a great job going a PR in the prelims to make it to the finals and because of her efforts she was able to walk away with a medal. I'm really excited for both her and Natalia returning next year. It was a small team, but they were really able to maximize what we have as a team. I'm really proud of their efforts and ready to move forward outdoors."- Dorian Scott, Head Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country
