PEORIA, ARIZONA (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team continued its strong play to start the spring, tying for second after carding a 7-under 569 through the first two rounds of Wisconsin's Westbrook Invitational Sunday at the Westbrook Village Golf Club (par 72, 6,230) in Peoria. Freshman Kendall Todd picked up where she left off after a runner-up finish at The Show two weeks ago, matching her season single-round low of 5-under 67 in round one to sit tied for first at 7-under with Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez.
UNLV led the field after an opening round 7-under 281 and shot even in round two, marking an under par score in eight of its last 14 rounds. Joining Todd in the top 25 was fellow freshmen Sydney Bryan in a tie for 15th at 1-under 143 and Toa Yokoyama in a tie for 22nd at even. Junior Nicole Lorup and freshman Hina Matsui, an individual competitor, are tied for 33rd at 2-over followed by senior Veronica Joels in a tie for 38th at 3-over.
The MSU Bulldogs edged out UNLV and Nebraska by two strokes to take a lead into Monday's final round at 9-under 567. Washington State checked in at fourth place at 1-under 575 and MInnesota rounded out the top five at even 576. Behind Todd and Lopez Ramirez Oklahoma's Libby Winans in third at 6-under, followed by three golfers - Nebraska's Vanessa Bouvet, Notre Dame's Chloe Schiavone and College of Charleston's Viktoria Hund - in a tie for fourth at 4-under.
UP NEXT: The third and final round will begin with a shotgun start Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. MT.
