LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV captured the first two games of the Silver State Series but fell to UNR, 8-4, in Sunday's finale at Eller Media Stadium.
UNR (8-19) made hay with infield hits as a wind gusting up to 35 miles per hour stifled the power in UNLV's (20-6) lineup.Â
The Wolf Pack added eight unanswered runs after
Denise Armendariz doubled in the bottom of the first to plate
April Visser.
UNR led off the third by loading the bases as Mia Misasi reached on an error, Tatum Maytorena smacked her offering back to the pitcher and Chelie Senini bunted her way on. The quick start allowed the Wolf Pack to put four across the plate before the Rebels could put away the inning.
Jasmine Martin relived
Jenny Bressler in the third and struck out seven of her next 12 faced, but UNR cracked the code with another volley of infield hits to score four more runs.
The wind died briefly in the bottom of the sixth and the Rebels took advantage as
Samantha Diaz belted a solo shot over left field and
April Visser slugged a home run to deep center, driving in two runs. But those would be the last steps around the bases.
UNLV is back in action at Eller Media Stadium Tuesday versus Dixie State. First pitch is 6 p.m.
