RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team saw two Rebels end a windy second day of the 2022 Mountain West Championship in the top 10 on the leaderboard at Mission Hills Country Club. Freshman
Sydney Bryan had the best UNLV round of the day on the Dinah Shore Course (Par 72 6,270 yards) - an even 72 - to move into seventh at 3-over, while senior
Veronica Joels remained in the top 10 in a tie for eighth at 4-over.
As a team, the Rebels moved up a spot to fifth place at 23-over. Coming in behind Bryan and Joels was junior
Nicole Lorup, who shot a 1-over Tuesday to sit tied for 20th at 7-over. Freshmen
Kendall Todd and
Hina Matsui are 38th and 44th at 13-over and 22-over respectively.
Fifth-ranked San Jose State entered the second round with a 12-shot lead and saw that margin grow to 25 shots despite shooting 2-over as a team on a day the course conditions were challenging for everyone. Fresno State remained in second place at 18-over, followed by New Mexico in third at 19-over, Boise State in fourth at 21-over and the Rebels in fifth. After a tournament-record 65 in the opening round, SJSU's Natasha Andrea Oon extended her lead to six shots after a 2-under 70 put her at 9-under overall. Her teammate Lucia Lopez-Ortega is in second at 4-under, while New Mexico's Lauren Lehigh is in third after her 3-under 69 - the only round under 70 on the day - took her to 1-under through 36 holes.
UP NEXT: Wednesday's final round will begin at 7:00 a.m. with the Rebels teeing off starting at 7:45 a.m. PT.
