ST. GEORGE, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) — Dixie State run-ruled UNLV, ending the Rebels' seven-game winning streak in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night.
The Trailblazers struck early, plating a run in the bottom of the first before adding three in the third and four in the fourth.
In the third, Dixie State loaded the bases before
Jasmine Martin took over in the circle. Martin punched out Lauren Almeida for the second out, but Olivia Trapp followed with a 3-RBI pinch-hit double on a 1-2 pitch.Â
Shea Clements dropped a two-out RBI single into center field. Clements scored the next at-bat as Laura Lockard homered to put the mercy rule into effect.
UNLV's
Hailey Schmaltz worked her way to third base in the top of the fifth, but the Rebels hit into consecutive groundouts to close the game.
After a 1-2-3 first, the Rebels put a runner into scoring position in each inning, but never found the timely hit to add numbers to the scoreboard.
UNLV (27-7 overall, 5-1 Mountain West) hosts No. 25 San Diego State (25-10, 9-0) for the weekend series in Las Vegas starting Friday, April 8, at 6 p.m.Â
