LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — No. 25 San Diego State kept UNLV at arm's length to capture a 2-0 win Friday night.
SDSU sophomore Mac Barbara knocked in both runs with two timely singles as the Aztecs (26-10 overall, 10-0 Mountain West) escaped Eller Media Stadium with their unblemished conference record intact.Â
"We were right in it," UNLV head softball coach
Kristie Fox said. "We had a lot of opportunities. We had runners on in scoring position in five of the seven innings."
UNLV (27-8, 5-2) went 0-for-12 at the plate with runners on base.Â
Barbara drove in the game-deciding run in the third inning, plating Nicole Seiss from third after the centerfielder walked and reached third from Bella Espinoza's bunt.Â
Barbara added insurance in the top of the seventh, scoring Espinoza with a single into shallow left field.Â
"We know all these games are going to be a dogfight. We just have to find a way to get a little dink hit or something."
Round two of the three-game series starts Saturday at 3 p.m.
