LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Track & Field team had two athletes qualify for the 2022 NCAA D1 Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary Round. This year's championship will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas from Wednesday, May 25 until Saturday, May 28.
Senior, mid-distance standout Emma Wahlenmaier ran her qualifying time at the Bryan Clay Invitational in mid-April in the women's 800m run, two weeks after posting a personal best of 2:07.92 and securing the win at the Rafer Johnson and Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invite.
Senior hurdler Alia Scott secured her spot in the women's 400m hurdles regionals after posting a time of 59.86 at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona. Scott will be returning to UNLV next year to make-up for her lost COVID season.Â
Regional selections are based on the athlete's best time all season. Student-athletes with the top 48 marks in each event of each region qualify for the preliminary round of the Track & Field National Championship.Â
QUOTABLE:Â "Really proud of Alia and Emma, I'm happy that their efforts this season were rewarded with qualifying for the regional round of nationals. These student-athletes have given their all this entire season and I'm really looking forward to watching them perform on the big stage."Â - Dorian Scott, Head Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country
