LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football will play a home-and-home series with the University of Houston and make its second-ever trip to Kansas to highlight a bevy of future schedule additions and adjustments announced by Director of Athletics
Erick Harper on Tuesday.
The Cougars, who are set to join the Big 12 Conference next year, will host the Rebels for the 2024 season-opener on August 31 and then face UNLV in Las Vegas for the first time since 1989 when they come to Allegiant Stadium on Sept. 9, 2028. Houston has won all three previous meetings between the schools, including the most recent in 2014 in TDECU Stadium. The trip to Texas replaces what was originally scheduled to be a game at UCLA, but that portion of a home-and-home series with the Bruins has been moved to Sept. 6, 2031. As previously announced, UCLA will come to Las Vegas on Sept. 6, 2025.
UNLV will play another Big 12 member, Kansas, on Sept. 14, 2024, in Lawrence. The Rebels and Jayhawks split a home-and-home series in their only previous meetings in 2002-03.
The Rebels also announced that they will travel to UTEP on Sept. 23, 2023, in a game that returns the Miners' trip to Las Vegas in 2018 when UNLV won 52-24 in its former home at Sam Boyd Stadium. The Rebels lead the all-time series vs. UTEP 6-2.
In addition, UNLV announced a pair of home games vs. FCS opponents: Bryant University will open the 2023 season at Allegiant Stadium on a special Thursday game on August 31 while Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State) will take on the Rebels for the first time ever on Sept. 7, 2024.
