LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's basketball junior center Desi-Rae Young has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Friday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
Young, a Las Vegas local out of Desert Oasis High School, led the Lady Rebels in back-to-back wins over San Jose State and New Mexico as they improved to 7-0 in Mountain West play. She scored 15 points and snagged 11 rebounds, while hitting seven of nine field-goal attempts in an 84-58 road win Saturday's win against the Spartans on Wednesday, Jan. 11. In Saturday's (Jan. 14) 79-63 victory over the Lobos, Young earned a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds, shooting nearly 70 percent (9-of-13 FG) from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
