SAN MARCOS, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's golf shot even par in Monday's final round of Texas State's Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club (Par 72, 6,010 yards) to finish with a season-low tournament score of 13-under 851. This marks the Rebels' fourth lowest 54-hole team tally in program history.
Leading the Rebel scorecard, junior
McKenzi Hall posted a career-low tournament score at 10-under 206 in a tied-for-6th finish. After a final-round 1-under 71, she bested her previous low of 9-under 207 earlier this fall.
Adding another pair of top-25 finishes for the Scarlet & Gray lineup, graduate student
Maria Jose Martinez, who eagled twice on day one, and sophomore
Thienna Huynh both tied for 21st at 4-under. Rounding out the Rebel competitors, junior
Mayumi Umezu (+5) and graduate student
Maria Fernanda Martinez (+8) tied for 51st and 57th, respectively.
Along with its season-low mark, UNLV tallied a season-high 45 birdies and three eagles in a ninth-place team finish. Hall had a team-best 12 birdies,
Maria Jose Martinez dropped in 10, Huynh and Umezu each tacked on nine and
Maria Fernanda Martinez finished with five.
In a field with a whopping 11 of 13 teams shooting below par, SMU claimed the team title at 38-under 826. The Mustangs also saw Ellie Szeryk earn individual medalist honors at 16-under 200.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will wrap up their fall tournament slate next week at Miami's Hurricane Invitational, which is set for Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 30-31.
REBEL NOTES:
- Hall notched her second top-10 final standing of the 2023 campaign at the Texas State-hosted event. Her other top-10 finish came when she earned co-medalist honors at the season-opening Dick McGuire Invitational.
- Additionally, Hall matched former Rebel golfer Polly Mack for the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
