CORAL GABLES, Fla. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's golf sophomore
Thienna Huynh finds herself in the top 25 after Monday's opening rounds of Miami's Hurricane Invitational at Biltmore Golf Course (Par 72, 6,170 yards).
Huynh posted back-to-back even-par 72 scores in the first and second rounds to end the day in a tie for 25th. She also converted eight birdies, five of which came on her first 18 holes.
Following Huynh in the Rebel lineup, graduate student
Maria Jose Martinez (+5) shot an even-par 72 of her own in the second round and is tied for 46th. Behind them are senior
Madeleine Laux (+6) in a tie for 52nd, juniors
McKenzi Hall (+8) and
Mayumi Umezu (+8) in a tie for 58th, as well as graduate student
Maria Fernanda Martinez (+9) in a tie for 60th as an individual.
The host Hurricanes (-20) grabbed the day-one lead in both the team and individual standings. They hold a seven-shot lead as a team over Oklahoma (-13) in second, while their own Sara Byrne (-15) takes the same advantage over South Florida's Emma Falcher (-8) into the final round.
