Ben Sawaia sits among the individual top-10 after Monday's opening two rounds of the Purdue Fall Classic at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course (par 71, 7,275 yards).
In his fall season debut, Sawaia carded a 2-under through 36 holes after he shot a first-round 1-over 72 and a second-round 3-under 68. Joining Sawaia inside the top-20 from the Rebel lineup, junior
Trevor Lewis (E), who contributed his own 3-under 68 in the first round, stands in a tie for 19th.
Following Sawaia and Lewis for the Scarlet & Gray are senior
Yuki Moriyama (+4) in a tie for 41st, freshman
Hogan Park (+5) in a tie for 51st and senior
Caden Fioroni (+6) in a tie for 56th. Competing as an individual,
Brett Sawaia (+6) is also tied for 56th.
As a team, the Rebels (+5) improved upon their first-round score by five shots with a second-round even-par 284 to end the day in 10th place.
Leading the 15-team field, Illinois State and Northern Illinois are tied for first at 8-under. Conversely, the Redbirds' Valentin Peugnet is the individual leader at 9-under, while NIU's Zach Place (-7) and Ben Sluza (-6) are in second and third, respectively.
