LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Host UNLV will boast finalists in all four singles flights and both doubles flights after another big day on Saturday for the women's team at the Jolene Watanabe Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Long Beach State, UTSA, NAU and Utah Tech all have representatives taking on the Rebel contingent this weekend.
In the top flight,
Salsa Aher moved on with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Ekua Youri of UTSA; in Flight Two
Cindy Hu downed Peppi Ramstedt of LBSU, 7-5, 7-5;
Coco Zhao got by Hana Novak of LBSU, 7-5, 6-1, in Flight Three; and
Aura Fang rallied to down Paulina Franco of LBSU, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6, in Flight Four.
In doubles, Hu and Zhao won 6-1 over a duo from Long Beach State in the top flight while Fang and
Nikol Mircheva shut out their opponent from Utah Tech to advance in Flight Two.
Doubles finals will start at 10 am on Sunday, followed by singles play. Admission is always free of charge.
The annual fall invitational is named in honor of former UNLV great Jolene Watanabe, who put the UNLV women's tennis program on the map three decades ago and passed away in 2019 after a battle with cancer at the age of 50.
