Rebels Land Two To MW Weekly Awards

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team landed two to the Mountain West's weekly awards with Shakeira Bowra named Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Jana Lakner named Women's Track & Field Freshman of the Week, for their efforts in the NAU Tune Up held last weekend.

Bowra, a St. Catherine, Jamaica native, earned her first weekly accolade after finishing fourth in the women's 60m dash, clocking a career-best time of 7.59 which currently ranks among the top 15 in the conference this season.

Lakner, a Landshut, Bavaria native, was named Freshman of the Week after winning the 400m dash Friday evening with a career-best time of 56.24. Her efforts earned her a spot among the top 20 in the MW this season.

NEXT TIME OUT: Bowra and Lakner will be joined by the rest of the squad for the 2023 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning Thursday, February 23 through Saturday, February 25. This year's championships will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
