LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program returns to Albuquerque, N.M. this week for the 2023 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day meet, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, will run Thursday through Saturday.
The meet will kick off Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. (PT) with the women's 5000m finals and will conclude with the women's distance medley relay finals set for 3:40 p.m. (PT). Saturday's events will get started at 12 p.m. (PT) with the women's long jump trials and finals and will conclude with the women's high jump finals set for 3:15 p.m. (PT). The final day will begin at 10:10 a.m. (PT) with the women's mile finals and will conclude at 12:50 p.m. (PT) with the women's 4x400 relay.
The Scarlet & Gray has a total of 9 student-athletes ranked in the top 20 for six events in the Mountain West standings entering the meet. Sophomore Rosa Santana leads the conference in the women's shot put with a program best mark of 17.93m while freshman Roxene Simpson sits in 18th with a mark of 12.77m. Sophomore Madelynn Wattles holds 19th in the women's weight throw with a mark of 15.02m. Sophomores AnnaKay Maitland and Kennedi Porter sit fifth and sixth in the women's 60m dash with times of 7.45 and 7.48, respectively. The sophomore duo also rank in the top 10 for the 200m run, Porter holds eighth (24.16) while Maitland sits 10th (24.20). Freshman Shakeria Bowra ranks 13th in the 60m with a time of 7.63. Junior Taylor Shorter ranks 11th in the women's 60m hurdles (8.81), senior Alia Scott sits in 20th in the 400m with a time of 56.41 and sophomore Erin Thompson ranks sixth in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.68m.
LAST TIME OUT: UNLV participated in the NAU Tune Up where multiple Rebels recorded a personal best. Freshman Jana Lakner secured the 400m title and finished with a career best time of 56.59 while junior Ednya Scott followed with a personal best (57.59) and Abigail Danlang ran a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:33.12. Sophomore Shakeria Bowra finished with a career best in the 60m (7.59). Graduate student Aaliyah Graves took seventh in the women's long jump with a season best mark of 5.19m (17-00.50). Freshman Camryn Harris finished with a mark of 5.00m (16-05.00), followed by junior Julia Nixon with a 4.97m (16-03.75).
