LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team will compete in a stacked field of competition when it hosts the Southern Highlands Collegiate from Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 26-28, at Southern Highlands Golf Club (Par 72, 7,510 yards). Tee times are set to begin at 9 a.m. PT.
The public is encouraged to attend the tournament and admission is free for this prestigious event that annually lures the country's best college golf teams and each year ranks at or near the top of the collegiate golf schedule in terms of strength of field.
PGA TOUR EXEMPTION: The individual champion will receive an exemption into the Shriners Children's Open, which will take place Oct. 12-15, 2023, at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas
THE FIELD: The tournament field includes 15 teams, including nine among the Golfstat top-25 rankings. Playing alongside the Rebels are No. 4 North Carolina, No. 7 Illinois, No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 11 Florida, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 Texas, No. 25 San Diego State, Georgia, New Mexico, SMU, TCU and UCF.
UNLV LINEUP: Representing the Scarlet & Gray will be junior
Caden Fioroni, junior
Ben Sawaia, seniors
Yuki Moriyama and
George Leigh, followed by freshman
Inigo Izuzquiza. Freshman
Brayden Bozak, sophomore
Aaron Jarvis and freshman
Brett Sawaia will be competing in the event as individuals.
FORMAT: 54-hole stroke play with the low four scores counted each round for the team total. 18-hole rounds each day. Individual ties will be broken by sudden-death playoff.
TEE TIMES: Play will begin at 9 a.m. PT each day with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 holes.
UNLV AT THE SHC: UNLV has won the team title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in seven of the last 18 years and has had an individual claim medalist honors four times in the last 20 years.
LAST TIME AT THE SHC: In 2022, UNLV finished in 10th place at 6-under, while junior Caden Fiorini notched a 10th-place finish to pace all Rebels. Oklahoma won the team title at 38-under 826. Individually, Georgia Tech's Patrick Welch shot a 14-under to win the title and the exemption into the 2022 Shriners Children's Open, Las Vegas' PGA Tour event.
