Rebels Selected To NCAA Postseason For Second Straight Season

UNLV will play in the Pullman Regional which is being hosted by Washington State at Palouse Ridge Golf Club May 8-10

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – For the second straight season, the UNLV women's golf team heard its name called among the NCAA Regional field on the Golf Channel Wednesday morning. The Rebels will play in the Pullman Regional which is being hosted by Washington State May 8-10 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Washington.

One of 12 teams slated to compete at the location, the Rebels garnered the No. 9 seed in a field that includes reigning national champion Stanford as the top seed, No. 2 seed Baylor, No. 3 seed USC, No. 4 seed Clemson and No. 5 seed Kentucky.  Out of those teams, four squads are ranked in the Golfstat top-25 rankings, including the Cardinal coming into the postseason at No. 1.

"We had a really good season," said UNLV head coach Amy Bush-Herzer. "From the late fall and through the spring, we didn't finish worse than sixth place, which helped us get this momentum and get to the Pullman Regional... We've faced a couple of these teams earlier in the season and we have wins over them, so I think that's great momentum for us. Staying in the West is huge because we'll be in the same time zone, so it's an easier trip and we get to play at a really good golf course."

The top five teams and the top individual at the three-day 54-hole tournament will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, being held May 19-24. One of six regional sites, Washington State's home course joins the University of Georgia Golf Course (host: Georgia), TPC San Antonio (host: Texas), PGA National Resort (host: Florida Atlantic), The Club at Chatham Hills (host: Indiana) and Lonnie Poole Golf Course (host: NC State) in welcoming the 72-team field to their respective courses.

The Scarlet & Gray is coming off a strong finish to the season in which it finished sixth place or better across the squad's final seven tournaments. That season-ending stretch included a season-best finish of second place at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic and a fifth-place showing at the Mountain West Championships. With their latest streak, the Rebels have climbed all the way up to No. 55 in the Golfstat rankings.
