Rebels Win Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team won the 2023 Triton Invitational with a total of 135 points and won five events Saturday night at the Triton Track and Field Stadium on the campus of UC San Diego.

The Rebels competed against 21 other teams and were followed by UC San Diego with 97 points, Central Arizona took third (56) and CSUSB and San Marcos rounded out the top five both with 53 points.

ON THE TRACK
- Freshman Jana Lakner won the women's 400m run with a career best time of 54.41, 0.11 seconds faster than second (54.52).
- Sophomore Kennedi Porter finished first in the women's 100m dash with a career best time of 11.79. Sophomore Shakeria Bowra placed third also with a personal best (11.88).
- Sophomore distance standout Natalia Ruiz took first in the women's 5000m run with a career best and program record time of 16:24.31, beating out second place by over 31 seconds (16:56.31). Freshman Nicole Boskovich and junior Morgan Aittama both had personal bests with times of 20:40.89 and 20:45.61, respectively.
- Senior Mackenzie Moss placed third in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:08.33.
- Ruiz took second in the women's 1500m run with a career best time of 4:32.63. Senior LaKyla Yazzie finished with a time of 5:00.35, followed by Moss and freshman Abigail Danlag who finished with times of 5:14.42 and 5:17.83, respectively.
- Junior Taylor Shorter finished fifth in the women's 100m hurdles with a career best time of 14.25. Freshman Noelani Mendoza also ran a career best with a 16.04.
- Danlag and Yazzie both had season bests in the women's 800m run with times of 2:28.60 and 2:29.26, respectively.
- Porter led the Scarlet & Gray in the women's 200m dash, finishing third with a time of 24.28. Lakner followed in seventh with a personal best time of 24.50, Bowra took 11th (24.63) and junior Endya Scott placed in the top-20 with a time of 25.41.

ON THE FIELD
- Sophomore Erin Thompson won the women's high jump event with a season best mark of 1.72m (5-07.75). Freshman Jennifer Soetebier finished in third with a career best mark of 1.67m (5-05.75)
- Graduate student Aaliyah Graves and junior Julia led the Rebels in the women's invitational long jump tying for 11th with a mark of 5.33m (17-06.00). Freshman duo Camyrn Harris and Mackenzie Okonta both had personal bests with marks of 5.01m (16-05-0.25) and 4.63m (15-02.25), respectively.
- Senior Cassidy Osborne-Butler took first in the women's open shot put event with a mark of 15.82m (51-11-00.00), the third best mark in program history. Sophomore Roxene Simpson finished 12th with a mark of 12.42m (40-09.00).
- Graves finished sixth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.20m (36-09.00), followed by Harris in eighth with a personal best mark of 11.00m (36-01.25).
- Sophomore Rosa Santana finished third in the women's invitational shot put event with a program record of 18.39m (60-04.00). Santana was only two inches away from second (18.49m (60-08.00).

UP NEXT: The Rebels will return to the Golden State next week for the Bryan Clay Invitational set for Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 15, as well as the Long Beach Invitational set for Friday, April 14 - Saturday, April 15.
