UNLV Athletics Continues To Break Department APR Records

Department sets multi-year score record, three teams set multi-year score records and seven teams set or tied single-year program marks with perfect scores.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Athletics set a multi-year NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) department record with a score of 987 as the national organization released its most recent data for the 2021-22 academic year Tuesday. The record surpassed the previous high mark of 985 for 2020-21.

Three Rebel programs set their record for APR multi-year scores: baseball (991), men's basketball (995) and men's tennis (1,000).

Additionally, seven UNLV teams earned a single-year perfect score of 1,000 to set or tie their own top marks: men's basketball, women's basketball, women's golf, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball.

For the 15th straight year, all 17 of UNLV's NCAA Division I sports programs possess a multi-year APR score that exceeds the NCAA minimum cut score of at least 930 to avoid penalties. The institution's single-year score of 986 for the year reported, meanwhile, is the second highest in program history - only bested by the record 990 for the 2018-19 academic year.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and its goal is to provide a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. A score of 1,000 means that the institution has met the goals of retention and satisfactory degree progress for 100 percent of each of its student-athletes in a given time period. A score of 900 equates to 90 percent, 800 equals 80 percent, and so forth. The NCAA implemented the APR in 2003.

The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
