PULLMAN, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team shot a 3-under 285 Tuesday to move into a tie for eighth after the second round of the NCAA Pullman Regional at Palouse Ridge Golf Club (Par 72, 6,405 yards).
The Rebels moved two spots up the team standings after dropping their score to par 576 for the program's regional-best tally through 36 holes. Behind the rise, the Scarlet & Gray had four individuals shoot par or better on the day as senior
Nicole Lorup shot a 2-under 70, super senior
Veronica Joels carded a 1-under 71, and sophomores
McKenzi Hall and
Toa Yokoyama tacked on identical par-72 rounds.
With those low scores, UNLV saw Hall and Joels end the day standing side-by-side on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 24th at 1-under. Following them in the Scarlet & Gray lineup, Lorup (E) jumped 13 spots into a tie for 34th, while Yokoyama (+3) climbed six spots to join freshman
Thienna Huynh (+3) in a tie for 47th.
Top-seeded Stanford clinged to its lead after a 14-under round brought its score to 35-under 541 for an 18-shot advantage over Texas Tech (-17) in second. The top-5 teams in contention to advance to the NCAA Championship going into the final round also include Clemson (-15) in third, USC (-13) in fourth and Baylor (-12) in fifth. The Cardinal's Rose Zhang held her place atop the individual standings at 12-under, sliding one-shot ahead of the Red Raiders' Shannon Tan (-11) in second and two shots ahead of her Stanford teammate Sadie Englemann (-10) in third.
