Santana Takes Bronze at NCAA Outdoor Championships

AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field's Rosa Santana finished third overall in the women's shot put event at the 2023 NCAA DI Outdoor Championships Thursday evening at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Santana, a sophomore from the Dominican Republic, had a final mark of 18.37m (60-03.25), less than an inch from her personal best and current program record of 18.39m (60-04.00). She finished behind Nebraska's Axelina Johansson (19.28m (63-03.25)) and Oregon's Jorinde Van Klinken (18.48m (60-07.75)).

By virtue of her bronze medal performance, Santana earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors for the second time this year. The previous being after her third place finish in shot put during the NCAA DI Indoor Championships on March 16.

REBEL NOTES:
- The last time a Rebel qualified for the national meet in a throwing event was in 2013 by MyShauna Alexander in the women's javelin throw.
- Santana's finish is the best since Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete took third in the 800m at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
