FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field delivered an impressive all-around performance across two days at the Fresno State Invite, highlighted by a first-place finish, multiple podium efforts and a wave of personal-best marks.
The Rebels opened competition Friday with a standout showing in the hammer throw, where Amaya Mitchell-Howard led the way. The senior recorded a personal-best toss of 56.37 meters (184 feet, 11 inches), finishing third among collegiate competitors and setting the tone for the weekend. UNLV carried that momentum into Saturday with a series of strong finishes on the track and in the field. The Rebels' 4x100-meter relay team of KayVeonna Jackson, Aly Winston, AnnaKay Maitland and Mikah Scott clocked a 45.45 to place fourth. Jackson later added an individual highlight in the 100 meters, sprinting to a second-place finish in 11.63 seconds. Scott placed seventh (11.87), while Gabby Goodgames recorded a personal-best 12.01.
Jaci Wright delivered one of the top performances of the meet, claiming first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.72. Goodgames doubled back to place seventh in the event (14.44). In the 400 meters, Kaitlynn Webbe paced the Rebels with a fourth-place finish in 54.62, while Malika Mashack followed in sixth with a personal-best 56.35.
Taryn Bailey turned in a strong runner-up finish in the 800 meters, crossing in a personal-best 2:08.54. Teammates Kenley Gowdy (2:13.69) and Claire Rands (2:13.71) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, with Gowdy also notching a personal best. In the 1500 meters, Alana Sangprasit added another PR to the tally, finishing in 4:53.95.
In field events, Roxene Simpson secured a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 47.48 meters (155 feet, 9 inches), while Sophia Clark placed eighth at 43.94 meters (144 feet, 2 inches). UNLV closed out the meet in dominant fashion, capturing first place in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Jayda Bushay, Aly Winston, Kaitlynn Webbe, and Kaelin Gowdy combined for a winning time of 3:44.63, sealing a successful weekend for the Scarlet & Gray.
UP NEXT: UNLV will take a week off before competing in the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Championships in Clovis, California May 14-16.
