ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – A rain delay altered Monday's opening day of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire, but it was UNLV women's golf junior
McKenzi Hall who brought the storm to UNM Championship Course in the first two rounds.
The Las Vegas native Hall tied the program record for lowest round with an 8-under 64 in the second round to take the individual lead at the event. She matches former Rebel
Elizabeth Prior's program lows for round-to-par and single-round scores set in 2016 in the Battle at Boulder Creek.
Hall, who was even par through the first 18 holes, drained 12 birdies on the afternoon to stand at 8-under through 36 holes. She holds a one-shot advantage over New Mexico's Lauren Lehigh (-7), Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez (-7), Kent State's Veronika Kedronova (-7) and Oregon State's Raya Nakao (-7).
Also representing the Rebel lineup, sophomore
Thienna Huynh (E) is tied for 13th at even-par after shooting a 1-under 71 in the second round. Following Hall and Huynh are junior
Mayumi Umezu in a tie for 41st, as well as graduate students
Maria Jose Martinez (+8) in a tie for 50th and
Maria Fernanda Martinez (-8) in a tie for 57th. Senior
Gracie Olkowski is tied for 78th competing as an individual.
On the team leaderboard, the Rebels' 1-over through two rounds places them in third, behind only Pepperdine in first at 14-under and Arizona State in second at 3-under.
