FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team continued the indoor season on Friday afternoon east of Nevada, competing at the Lumberjack Team Challenge for a one-day meet, hosted by Northern Arizona University. The Rebels showcased a plethora of personal-best moments alongside several medal winners in the meet, including a first-place finish and three other medaled events.
Jana Lakner earned the gold medal in the women's 400m, slotting a 55.91 final time in the fourth heat of the event to win by .08 seconds. Lakner's winning time marked a personal best that surpassed her 2023 Mountain West Indoor Championships time last season.
Jaydea Carter cemented a medal of her own, earning a second-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles. The first-year Rebel finished the event on an 8.57 final time, registering the fastest collegiate time in the event.
Delaysia Allen also picked up a top-eight finals finish, placing sixth overall.
UNLV's 4x400m relay found success in the runner-up spot as well, the relay of Carter, Lakner,
Kennedi Porter and
Endya Scott combining for a 3:48.66 final time. The team's performance in the event marked the fastest time for the program this season, earning their time as the only relay in their respective heat.
Porter found herself among the women's 60m top-three spots with a personal record in the final, picking up the bronze medal on a 7.40 final time in the event. The junior's finals race topped her prelim time just moments prior, running .05 seconds faster than her preliminary time earlier in the day.
The Scarlet & Gray also had a handful of student-athletes earn personal records in their respective events, both
Mackenzie Okonta and
Camryn Harris picking up a personal best distance in the women's triple jump. Okonta also picked up a second personal best in the meet in her long jump performance.
The Rebels featured two student-athletes with personal highs in the women's 800m;
Abigail Danlag and
LaKyla Yazzie each earning top marks. Danlag's performance beat her time in the event from only a week ago by .61 seconds at the Spokane Showcase.
Aitza Romero also earned up a 600m personal-best time in the indoor season during Friday's meet.
