LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team will take off for their fourth indoor meet of the season this weekend, traveling across a few states to Albuquerque, N.M. for a two-day meet. The event will be hosted by the University of New Mexico, the New Mexico Collegiate Classic taking place from Friday, Feb. 2 through Saturday, Feb. 3.
The Rebels will send 16 different student-athletes on the trip, looking to continue showcasing time improvements similar to their last meet at the Lumberjack Team Challenge. Friday's events kick off with heptathlon and pentathlon events starting at 8:45 a.m. PT before moving into individual field events at 10 a.m. PT, then the running events will commence at 1 p.m. PT. The running events on Friday include the 200m, 3000m, 600m, 400m, 200m, and the 800m. The day will also include the women's long jump, high jump, pole vault and weight throw in the field events.
The meet will have two field events slated for the Saturday session; the women's triple jump scheduled for a 10 a.m. PT start time and the shot put before that at 9:30 a.m. PT. The running events will start early at 8:20 a.m. PT to round out the heptathlon, also showcasing the prelim and final sessions of the 60m hurdles and the 60m. The other events for the day consist of the mile, 400m, 800m and the 4x400m relay. The final event of the Collegiate Classic is listed to start at approximately 2 p.m. PT.
The Scarlet & Gray earned several medaled finishes alongside their slew of personal records two weeks ago at the Lumberjack Team Challenge, including a gold medal from
Jana Lakner in the women's 400m with a personal-best time in the event. Other medal-winners included second-place finishes by
Aitza Romero and
Jaydea Carter while the program's 4x400m A relay picked up a bronze medal to end the one-day meet.
