HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team shot a 4-under 284 Friday and sits in fifth place after the opening round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate being hosted by Denver at the Denver University Golf Club at Highlands Ranch (Par 72, 6,611 yards).
Senior
Mayumi Umezu turned in her lowest round as a Rebel to date with a 4-under 68 – one shot off her career-low round – and her counterpart
Toa Yokoyama added a 2-under 70 to lead the Scarlet & Gray scorecard. The former is tied for third, while the latter is tied for 13th going into the second round.
With their start, UNLV positioned itself within four shots of the host Denver and Minnesota in a tie for the team lead at 8-under 280. Umezu, meanwhile, is three shots back of the day-one individual leader Reese McCauley from the Gopher squad at 7-under 65.
Also competing for the Rebels are seniors
McKenzi Hall (+1) and
Hina Matsui (+1) in a tie for 37th and sophomore
Zi Yu Foong (+4) in a tie for 64th.
