Six Rebels Named To CSC Academic All-District Team

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Six UNLV women's soccer players were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Friday.

Senior forward Kennedi Schmidt, who owns a 3.82 as a kinesiology major, earns the honor after wrapping up her final season. She scored her second career goal in a win over Air Force and totaled 504 minutes in 20 games played.

Junior defender Gianna Newby, who holds a 3.55 GPA as a kinesiology major, started all 20 games and received All-Mountain West Second Team recognition. The team captain logged a team-high 1,787 minutes, including the full 90 minutes in 19 matches, added a career-best three assists and propelled the Rebel backline to top-5 Mountain West rankings in goals allowed (26) and goals against average (1.30).

Also a team captain, redshirt junior defender Torie Reardon is a kinesiology major with a 3.86 GPA. In her 20 games played, she racked up a career-high two assists and two points in 770 minutes on the pitch while also helping the Scarlet & Gray backline become one of the MW's top-5 defensive units.

The starting goalkeeper, junior Hanne Breur makes the list as a biology major with a 3.77 GPA. She anchored the Rebel backline with top-3 conference individual rankings in saves (83), saves per game (4.37), save percentage (.798) and goals against average (1.20).

Junior midfielder Sarah Martinez is also majoring in kinesiology with a 3.86 GPA. In her second year at UNLV, she started all 17 games she played in and netted two goals for four points in 1,342 minutes on the pitch.

A hospitality major, sophomore defender Elizabeth Bautista has accumulated a 3.94 GPA.  Starting in 19 of 20 matches, she helped guide the Rebel backline alongside Newby and Reardon to top-5 league rankings on the defensive side.

The 2024 Academic All-District Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom across four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.5 GPA and compete in 90 percent of the institution's contests or start in at least 66 percent of those.
