
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Football Head Coach
Barry Odom, Director of Athletics Erick Harper and a contingent of student-athletes and staffers from the program were on hand Tuesday to be honored by the Clark County Board of Commissioners during its scheduled meeting.

Chairman Tick Segerblom welcomed the visitors wearing Rebel Red by reading from the official proclamation, which included various highlights from the team's historic 2023 season, and declared Tuesday as "UNLV Football Day" in Clark County.

"We're so thankful and honored to have the opportunity to be here today," said Odom. "Thank you for the opportunity to represent this great city and we look forward to a great 2024."

Joining Odom and Harper in accepting the official proclamation was the program's Director of Player Development and Community Engagement and former Rebel great
Hunkie Cooper, Assistant Coach
Nicco Fertitta and Graduate Assistant Coach
Julio Garcia, who also was a star lineman at UNLV.

The players on hand were First Team All-Mountain West and Academic All-American linebacker
Jackson Woodard, All-America wide receiver
Ricky White, All-America kick returner
Jacob De Jesus, veteran quarterback Cam Friel, and a pair of freshmen from Las Vegas, running back
Greg Burrell and tight end
Jae Beasley.

HEREAS, it is the policy and pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners, to honor and recognize extraordinary individuals who enrich the lives of others in the community; and
      Â
WHEREAS, in his first season in Las Vegas, UNLV Head Coach
Barry Odom built a football program that set multiple records on the field and in the classroom, secured its annual rivalry trophies, and earned a multitude of accolades that created local and national interest; and
      Â
WHEREAS, the UNLV Football team won nine games for the first time since 1984, won its first Mountain West Regular-Season Championship, and hosted its first-ever conference title game, all leading to earning its first bowl-game appearance in a decade. Coach Odom was named Conference Coach of the Year and finalist for National Coach of the Year, and three Rebel players –
Jose Pizano,
Ricky White and
Jacob De Jesus – earned All-America honors, and a record six Rebels were named First Team All-Conference; and the team set a record with a 3.22 cumulative grade point average, and celebrated its first-ever First Team Academic All-American in
Jackson Woodard; and

WHEREAS, Coach Odom, the UNLV administration, assistant coaches and support staff helped the student-athletes turn in a season of such notable achievement that generated a great sense of pride within our community.

NOW THEREFORE, WE, the Board of County Commissioners of Clark County, Nevada, do hereby recognize The UNLV Football Program on this 20th of February, for their continuing pursuit of excellence.Â
