Three Rebels Named to MW 25th Season Team

In celebration of 25 seasons in existence, the conference announced a 25th Season Team ahead of the Track & Field Indoor Championships

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – Three former UNLV women's track & field standouts – Michele Davis (1999-2002), Destiny Smith-Barnett (2015-19) and Rosa Santana (2022-23) – were selected to the Mountain West 25th Season Team, the league office announced Wednesday.

The MW 25th Season Teams were compiled by the 25th Teams Committee, comprising members from the league's 11 full-time institutions, to celebrate the conference's 25th season of excellence on and off the field. They will be announced at each Mountain West Championship during the 2023-24 season.

Davis, a native of Lansing, Mich., was a four-time All-American during her career at UNLV, earning the honor twice in 2000 in the 200 and 400 meters, and two more times in 2002 in the same pair of events. Davis' highest finish at the NCAA meet came in 2000 when she placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 23.14. She also won seven individual titles at three MWC Indoor Championship meets, including three each in 2001 and 2002. She was the high-point scorer at both those championship meets, winning the 60, 200 and 400 meters each year.

Smith-Barnett, who ran for UNLV from 2015-19 and was an All-American twice in the indoor 60m (2019 First Team and 2017 Second team) and once in the outdoor 100m (Second Team). A two-time Mountain West champion, she won both titles in the 60m, once at the 2019 Indoor Championships and the other at the 2015 Indoor Championships. Her best time in the 200m (23.14) still remains as a UNLV program record.

Santana, a former top-three finisher at the NCAA Championships, picked up USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors in the shot put during the 2023 season. She placed third overall at the NCAA DI Indoor Championships, marking a distance of 18.43m. Prior to that she won the conference title in the event at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing on a final distance of 17.91m.
