Rebels To Host Nation's Best At Southern Highlands Collegiate

Eight squads ranked in the top 25 will join a 15-team field for the tournament starting Sunday at Southern Highlands Golf Club

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team will host some of the nation's top-ranked teams at the Southern Highlands Collegiate from Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 25-27, at Southern Highlands Golf Club (Par 72, 7,510 yards). Tee times are set to begin at 9 a.m. PT.

The public is encouraged to attend the tournament and admission is free for this prestigious event that annually lures the country's best college golf teams and each year ranks at or near the top of the collegiate golf schedule in terms of strength of field.

PGA TOUR EXEMPTION: The individual champion will receive an exemption into the Shriners Children's Open, which will take place Oct. 14-20, 2024, at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

THE FIELD: The tournament field includes 15 teams, including eight teams ranked among Spikemark's top-25 rankings. Playing alongside the Rebels are No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Auburn, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 16 Florida, No. 17 New Mexico, No. 20 Illinois, No. 22 Texas, Georgia, Missouri, Pepperdine, San Diego State, TCU and Texas A&M.

UNLV LINEUP: Representing the Scarlet & Gray will be senior Caden Fioroni, sophomore Wyatt Plattner, senior Yuki Moriyama, junior Trevor Lewis and senior Ben Sawaia. Competing as individuals are sophomore Brett Sawaia, freshman Hogan Park, sophomore Inigo Izuzquiza, freshman Philip Kench and sophomore Billy Smith.

FORMAT: 54-hole stroke play with the low four scores counted each round for the team total. 18-hole rounds each day. Individual ties will be broken by sudden-death playoff.

TEE TIMES: Play will begin at 9 a.m. PT each day with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 holes.

UNLV AT THE SHC: UNLV has won the team title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in seven of the last 19 years and has had an individual claim medalist honors four times in the last 21 years.

LAST TIME AT THE SHC:  In 2023, Fioroni tied for fifth in the individual standings and the Rebels finished 10th as a team. Ilinois won the team title at 21-under 843. Individually, Yuxin Li shot a13-under 203 to win medalist honors and earn the exemption into the 2023 Shriners Children's Open, Las Vegas' PGA Tour event.
