LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team had to wait out the desert rain on Sunday but finally took to the courts and eventually downed Youngstown State 6-1 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels improved to 3-2 with a trio of weekend victories while the Penguins fell to 1-5.
 
The hosts took the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1 by Zita Kovacs and Hanna Vinahradava and a 6-2 win over at No. 2 by Coco Zhao and Cindy Hu.
 
Moving to singles play, UNLV earned four straight-set wins to clinch it. Salsa Aher downed Julia Marko, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2; Hu got by Elinor Beazley, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3; Zhao fended off Lili Minich, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 5; and Nikol Mircheva was the first off the courts with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Line Greyling. Kovacs posted her team's final point with a 7-6, 1-6, 7-5 grinder over Eliska Masarikova.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Cindy Hu went 2-0 with a doubles win and then a quick singles victory on court three.
 
UP NEXT: UNLV takes a week off before hosting New Mexico State to continue its nine-match homestand. The Rebels and Aggies will tangle on Feb. 16 starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex are free of charge.
