HUMBLE, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's golf senior
Yuki Moriyama earned his first career victory at the All-American Intercollegiate in a playoff Tuesday afternoon at the Golf Club of Houston (Par 72, 7,425 yards).
After shooting a final-round 1-under 71 to end up tied for first at 5-under 211 with Sam Houston's Bret Gray, Moriyama (73-67-71) sank his birdie putt to secure the win on the first playoff hole (18th). This marks the first time a Rebel has entered the winner's circle since 2021.
Giving the Rebels two top-5 finishes at the two-day event, senior
Caden Fioroni shot a 2-under for the second straight round to finish fifth at 3-under 213. Behind its top duo's finishes, the Scarlet & Gray (+11) placed fourth, notching the squad's 7th top-10 finish of the spring.
Junior
Trevor Lewis (+11) and
Wyatt Plattner (+11) tied for 53rd, while senior
Ben Sawaia (+19) tied for 89th to round out UNLV's lineup.
Three Rebel sophomores also completed play in the individual tournament on the Member Course (Par 72, 7,508 yards).
Brett Sawaia (+3) tied for 12th after a final-round 2-under 70,
Inigo Izuzquiza (+5) tied for 26th and
Billy Smith (+7) finished 31st.
Leaving with the team win, No. 6 Texas Tech wound up with a 7-over 871 on its scorecard.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will travel to Maricopa, Arizona for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic set to take place from April 1-2.
