LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball senior Keylan Boone has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Tuesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
Boone, a Tulsa, Oklahoma native, led the Runnin' Rebels to the quarterfinals of the NIT, averaging 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in victories over No. 2 Princeton and Boston College. He shot 51.9 percent from the field (14-of-27) in two games, including 53.8 percent from beyond the arc, and made two blocks per game.
At Princeton, Boone earned his fourth double-double with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He continued his hot streak by scoring a team-high 19 points while grabbing a team-leading eight rebounds and draining five 3-pointers at the Thomas & Mack Center against Boston College.
This is the Runnin' Rebels' first postseason appearance in 11 years. The win over Princeton was their first postseason victory in 16 years.
