LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team handed visiting Fresno State its first conference loss of the season with a 4-1 thumping on Thursday morning at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in Mountain West play while the Bulldogs fell to 8-9 and 2-1.
UNLV head coach
Kevin Cory, who is completing his 25th and final season leading the program, improved his record in MW matches to an eye-popping 128-36.
The hosts rolled in doubles play to secure the team point.
Zita Kovacs and Hanna Vinahrada won 6-0 at the top of the lineup before
Salsa Aher and
Aura Fang won 6-1 on court three.
Five of six Rebels took their first set in singles play. Fang was first off the courts with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eliza Dunbar at No. 6;
Coco Zhao swept Mariya Vyshkina, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4; and, after Fresno State posted its lone point on court three, Aher ended things with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Misaki Kobayashi at the second position. Rebels were also leading in both of the remanining matches, which were halted.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Aher cruised in doubles and then posted the clincher in singles to improve her record to 15-4 overall, 12-2 in dual matches and 4-0 in league play.
UP NEXT: UNLV ends its homestand by hosting Wyoming on Saturday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
