LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Athletics has received an anonymous seven-figure gift designated for support of the $150 million "Rebel Up" comprehensive capital campaign that was launched in October 2023, Director of Athletics Erick Harper announced Thursday.
"The funds from this anonymous donor will make an incredible impact on the lives of our student-athletes and we cannot thank them enough for their generous support, loyalty, and commitment to the growth and future success of the Rebels," Harper said.
This gift will enhance the student-athlete experience at UNLV in the areas of academics, career development, mental wellness, nutrition and sports science. The "Rebel Up" campaign has generated over $9.5 million in new cash and pledges since its launch.
"UNLV is Las Vegas' original home team, and this generous gift is indicative of the incredible community support for UNLV Athletics and our student-athletes that will make it possible for our programs to grow, thrive, and succeed for years to come," UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield said.
"Our coaches, staff and our student-athletes are grateful for this incredibly generous donation," Harper added. "The 'Rebel Up' campaign is off to a great start and we need our Rebel community to continue supporting our outstanding student-athletes who recently set more academic records with a graduation success rate of 88% as well as achieving a collective grade point average of 3.0 or better for 13 straight semesters."
UNLV is thriving as an institution and contributions by donors will continue to propel it to new heights in the education and care of its students. Student success is at the forefront of the university's mission to provide a holistic experience for all students. The mission of UNLV Athletics is to Graduate Leaders, Win Championships, and Excel in All That We Do.
"The UNLV Athletics Revenue Generation Team led by Deputy AD for Revenue Generation Mike Ketcham and Senior Associate AD for Revenue Generation Patrick Sojka has set high standards to generate revenues to impact the student-athlete experience and I cannot thank them enough for the work they are doing since 'Rebel Up' launched," said Harper.
As the "Rebel Up'' campaign continues to build, UNLV Athletics is asking all Rebels to join in support of the student-athletes who continue to excel both in the classroom and in competition.
