RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team combined to shoot an even-par 288 for the second straight day in Thursday's final round to place second at the Mountain West Championship on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club (Par 72, 6,286 yards). This marks the Rebels' highest finish at the conference tournament since 2018.
Guiding the Rebels' strong finale with top-10 finishes, junior
Toa Yokoyama and sophomore
Thienna Huynh tied for seventh at 1-under 216 and graduate student
Maria Jose Martinez (E) tied for ninth after pulling even for the tournament. Huynh and Martinez mirrored each other with final-round 1-under scorecards, while Yokoyama stayed below par with an even-par 72 on the day.
Topping off the Scarlet & Gray competitors, junior
Mayumi Umezu (+9) tied for 28th and junior
McKenzi Hall (+11) tied for 31st.
Claiming the MW team title, San Jose State separated itself from the pack with a final-round 9-under to finish at 17-under 847 through 54 holes. UNLV's 1-over 865 made it the next closest competitor.
The conference individual title also went into the Spartans' hands, with SJSU's Kajsa Arewfjall finishing at 9-under for the tournament. She shot a final-round 6-under 66 to top day-two leader in UNM's Lauren Lehigh by three shots.
