UNLV Wraps Up Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team competed in the final day of the Mt. SAC Relays meet on Saturday afternoon, taking the track once more after participating the last two days.

The Rebels only took part in one event during the last day of competition, taking flight in the women's 4x100m relay ELITE. The relay the program put together consisted of Chinyere Okoro, Kennedi Porter, AnnaKay Maitland and Jaydea Carter. The team came together to run a time of 44.29, tying their season-best mark in the first of two heats. The relay would finish ninth overall in the event.

The team will have one more meet in the outdoor season before heading off to the Mountain West Championships, competing in the Desert Heat Classic next weekend. That meet at the University of Arizona will be a two-day competition, starting on Friday, April 26 and running through Saturday, April 27.

FRIDAY
Coming of a short day one of the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday morning, the UNLV track & field team arrived back to Hilmar Lodge Stadium on Friday for their biggest day of the weekend. The Rebels took part in nine different events, earning several top performances and more personal-bests on day two.

The program's highlight to the day came from the women's discus, the Scarlet & Gray claimed two of the top four distances in the 'Collegiate B' section of the event. Roxene Simpson led the way for the program, throwing the second-farthest distance in program history at 50.65m (166' 2"). She'd finish third in the event, Krishna Jayasankar finishing right behind her at fourth with a 49.68m (163' 0") mark of her own. Jayasankar's top throw of the day not only noted her fourth-place spot in the event, but also marked the third-farthest toss in UNLV women's track & field history.

Kennedi Porter registered several strong times of her own in the sprint events on day two of the meet, posting top-eight finishes in both the women's 100 and 200m races. Her 100m time marked a fifth-place finish in the event, earning a personal-best time of 11.44 (+1.7). That new PB dropped her top time by .1 seconds, originally set at the Aztec Invitational earlier in the season. She would also pick up a seventh-place spot in the women's 200m, running a final time of 23.71 in the event. AnnaKay Maitland also picked up a new personal-best time in the event.

She wouldn't be the only runner to score a top time in the day, Jaydea Carter registering the eighth-fastest time in the women's 100m hurdles. Her 13.83 mark is just at her best time of the season set a couple weeks ago at the Aztec Invitational. Erin Thompson rounded out the UNLV lineup with a top-eight performance of her own, jumping up to fifth overall in the women's high jump. Thompson's height would reach 1.60m (5' 3") in the event.

The Rebels will only compete in one more event before the conclusion of their time at the Mt. SAC Relays meet, competing in the final day of competition on Saturday, April 20. The day will consist of only one event, taking off in the women's 4x100m relay ELITE section of the meet. That race is scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m. PT.

THURSDAY
After hosting the UNLV Rebels ELITE meet just two weeks ago, the UNLV track & field team took the course once again on Thursday, competing at the 64th Annual Mt. SAC Relays meet. Hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, the Scarlet & Gray kicked off their three days of competition with a quick day one on Thursday.

Emili Osula Liis represented the Rebels in the highly competitive meet on day one, facing off against NCAA DI-ranked opponents in the women's javelin. She would toss a distance of 39.78m (130' 6") in the event, finishing 12th overall in the highly-competitive field. Thursday's performance was the third-straight meet she's finished on a final distance of 39m or more this outdoor season.

The bulk of UNLV's attendance at the meet will take place on Friday, April 19, participating in nine different events on the day. Among those aforementioned events it will split between four field and five running, the field events consisting of the long jump, discus, high jump and shot put. The Rebels' running events will be the 100m and 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles.
