Sam Simon being presented the Pitcher of the Week honor. The Rebels won all four games that week, including a win over Stanford, averaging 10.7 runs per game during that stretch while only allowing three per contest.
UNLV's offense continues to stand as the highlight of the program, sticking as a top-two team in the conference (second) from an offensive standpoint that stems from a strong core of intelligent batters. The team's RBI leader,
Austin Kryszczuk, currently ranks at the Mountain West's top spot in RBI at 53, also sitting inside DI's top-25 in the statistical category at 24th overall.
The Scarlet & Gray's holds some other top marks in other spots among the conference as well,
Rylan Charles alongside Kryszczuk solidifying themselves as one of the league's top hitters with a second-place 56 hits so far on the season. Charles also boasts a top-two ranking in runs scored this season (45) while
Austin Kryszczuk hosts the fourth-best batting average this season in the league (.373).
The Rebels' pitching holds a handful of notable marks among the Mountain West Conference,
Austin Cates distancing himself as the highest strikeout pitcher with 83 on the season that ranks ninth among NCAA DI pitchers. Holding a top-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio among all NCAA pitchers (sixth) as well at 9.22, he also sits second in the Mountain West in ERA with a minimum one inning pitched per game (2.91), tied first in the conference in runs allowed among those throwers previously mentioned.
UNLV's win against then-no. 23 ranked Stanford was a landmark win for the program, their first win against a ranked opponent since 2019. The Rebels' have produced double-digit runs eight times in 2024, a feat they achieved 13 times last season.
ABOUT SJSU: The Spartans enter the weekend on a hot streak, their last outing being a sweep of the conference's top team in Fresno State. Scoring an average of nine runs during those three games, Hunter Dorraugh came away with the Mountain West's Player of the Week honor after posting a slugging percentage of .933 during the stretch.
The Rebels will aim to hit off the Spartans' pitching staff similar to their last time facing off, the Scarlet & Gray breaking the program's single-inning run record with a 16-run first inning en route to a 23-5 win. Since the two team's last meeting, the Spartans have switched up their pitching rotation as of late to Keaton Chase and Micky Thompson.
