DALLAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team shot a spring-low 5-under 283 on the final 18 of Monday's 36 holes of stroke play to open the Texas Showdown, which is being co-hosted by SMU and Baylor at Dallas Athletic Club (Par 72, 6,141 yards).
The Rebels (+6) eclipsed their first-round scorecard (+11) with a 16-shot improvement in the second round to earn the No. 6 seed for Tuesday's match play. Behind that stroke play finish, each of the Scarlet & Gray's four scorers recorded par-or-better scores on the day's final 18 holes.

Maria Jose Martinez shot a team-best 3-under 69, sophomore
Thienna Huynh and junior
Mayumi Umezu (+1) carded a 1-under 71 and junior
McKenzi Hall fired an even-par 72.
Representing the Scarlet & Gray lineup on the individual leaderboard are Huynh in a four-way tie for 10th, Umezu in a tie for 20th, Martinez in a tie for 26th, Hall in a tie for 29th and junior
Toa Yokoyama (+10) in 45th. Competing as an individual, senior
Gracie Olkowski (+6) ended the day in a tie for 34th.
On the team leaderboard, co-host Baylor earned the top seed heading into match play on Tuesday at 12-under during stroke play. The day-one individual leader was Maryland's Patricie Mackova at 9-under.
UP NEXT: The tournament concludes Tuesday with 36 holes of match play. In the first round of match play, the No. 6 seed Rebels will face No. 7 seed BYU. The winner of that match will play the winner of the matchup between No. 5 seed Kansas and No. 8 seed Texas State in the second and final round.
