LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team continued their 2024 outdoor season this past weekend on familiar grounds, the team hosted their first home track & field meet since the 2021 season in the UNLV Rebels ELITE Invitational. The team finished first out of the seven teams listed in the meet, junior
Kennedi Porter earning recognition for her results as the Mountain West Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Porter earned several personal-best times over the course of the weekend, registering a best time in the women's 100m dash on a 11.36 mark. Chinyere Okoro by .03 seconds. Her second personal-best time was picked up in the women's 200m, posting a 23.42 time as the event's runner-up. Her 200m performance was noted by the league as the fastest time in the Mountain West so far this outdoor season by .13 seconds, following up her win in the event at the recent conference Indoor Championships.
She would pick up one more win as part of a group, tallying it in the 4x100m relay for the Rebels. She would team up with Okoro,
AnnaKay Maitland and
Jaydea Carter on a 45.60 time, picking up the relay win in dominant fashion by .88 seconds. The performance would mark the quad's second-straight win in the event, previously earning the top spot at the Aztec Invitational two weeks ago.
The Scarlet & Gray will look to continue the strong season next weekend, traveling to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays. That multi-day meet will be hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, stretching from Wednesday, April 17 through Saturday, April 20.
