LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV Track & Field team will look to carry their momentum from the outdoor season into the final stretch of the academic year, competing in the 2024 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this week in Clovis, Calif. The conference championships will kick off on Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11.
 
Individually, the Rebels will have a majority of their roster traveling competing in multiple events over the course of the weekend. 16 members of the Scarlet & Gray set to compete, they'll also take part in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays during the meet as well.
 
Junior Kennedi Porter aims to lead UNLV in the lanes, currently ranked second in both the 100m and 200m races heading into the weekend. She'll be backed up but a slew of quick Rebels, including senior Chinyere Okoro right behind her at the third-place rankings in the women's 100m. Shakeira Bowra will aim to also jump into the conference's top-eight spots as she doubles up in the women's 100m and 200m events as well, currently slotted ninth in the former and 10th in the latter. 
 
The Rebels will aim to have a couple more members of their squad finish within the meet's top-eight competitors, Jana Lakner rounding out the 400m's top eight and AnnaKay Maitland within a short reach in the women's 200m at 11th. Among the hurdle events they'll have junior Jaydea Carter doubling up in the 100m and 400m of the hurdles, Carter looking to break away with a sixth-place prelims ranking in the 100m and 10th in the 400m.
 
After picking up the women's high jump championship title during the conference's last indoor meet, Grace Cunningham will aim for the sweep at the upcoming outdoor championships with the top ranking heading into the weekend. She'll look to collect a plethora of points alongside teammate Erin Thompson, Thompson slotted in the sixth-place pre-meet ranking in the event and also looking for a medal. Camryn Harris will represent the program as the lone Rebel in the women's long jump and triple jump events. 
 
 UNLV's field event entries will also showcase some of the Rebels' premier talents in the throws department, Roxene Simpson, Krishna Jayasankar and Madelynn Wattles all entering into the weekend in at least one event. Both Simpson and Jayasankar will enter the meet ranked within the event's top-eight entries after pushing top-five UNLV all-time rankings in the discus throw, Jayasankar also pushing for a top-eight finish in the women's shot put. Wattles will aim to post a strong distance for the Rebels in the hammer throw.
