LUBBOCK, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team combined for a third consecutive 1-under 287 in Wednesday's final round to place second for the second straight tournament to start the fall after Texas Tech's Red Raider Invitational at The Rawls Course (Par 72, 6,894/6,877 yards).
The Rebels, who were led by three top-15 individual finishers, ended the 54-hole tournament with a final score of 3-under 861. They were one of only two teams in a 17-team field to shoot below par at the event, finishing only behind the host Red Raiders that claimed the team crown on their home course at 8-under 856.
In its final round, the Scarlet & Gray senior leaders stepped up as
McKenzi Hall had her best round of the event at 3-under 69,
Toa Yokoyama posted a second consecutive 2-under 70 and
Mayumi Umezu shot an even-par 72. Hall (-4) tied for fifth for the tournament, Yokoyama (-2) tied for ninth and Umezu (-1) cracked the top 15 in a tie for 12th.
Also competing for the Rebel lineup, sophomore
Zi Yu Foong (+7) tied for 28th and senior
Hina Matsui tied for 36th.
In a close battle for the individual trophy, Kent State's Veronika Kedroňová tallied a 7-under 209 to earn medalist honors with a one-shot advantage over BYU's Maria Jose Barragan (-6) and TTU's Kiara Hurtova (-6).
